Marmasthan | The Vital Points
The points of the Vastu Purusha Mandala that must never be obstructed by a pillar, wall, beam, or fixture — sourced from Brihat Samhita Ch.53, with the classical two-tier structure most modern summaries collapse into one.
1. Ordinary Marmasthala
The geometric centre of every one of the 81 padas is a Marmasthala (vital point), each sized 1/8 the area of its pada (Brihat Samhita 53.57, 53.64). No pillar, peg, or impurity may fall on one.
2. Atimarma — the 9 great points
The 6 Vamsha lines intersect in exactly 9 points — the Atimarma, the most severe vital points in the whole plan (Brihat Samhita 53.63-64).

Consequence & What's Not Verified
Per Brihat Samhita 53.58 and 53.67-68, obstructing a vital point harms the house's master in the body-part corresponding to the pada violated — the text maps padas to body parts (head, eyes, ears, breast, shoulder, etc.) and states the affliction follows the same mapping. This is a preventive rule, not a corrective one: the classical text gives no remedy verse for an already-obstructed marma.
